The Museum of Nature & Science invites all middle and high school students to join us online for a virtual “Teen Science Café – Super Volcanoes,” with guest presenter Frank Ramos, Ph.D.
This program is recommended for teens ages 11 to 17.
New Mexico is home to a super volcano, the Valles caldera near Jemez, New Mexico. By dating crystals from massive eruptions like the one that formed the Valles caldera, Dr. Ramos finds clues to the processes that lead up to super-volcanic eruptions. Learn how and take a virtual tour of the Johnson Mass Spectrometer Lab at this month’s “Teen Science Café”.
Dr. Ramos researches the processes that generate super-volcanic eruptions and how highly explosive magmas form and accumulate before major eruptive events. He works with volcanoes including the Valles caldera in New Mexico and Changbaishan volcano in North Korea/China.
