Event date: July 13, 2019
Event Time: 07:30 PM – 11:59 PM
Location:
NMSU Campus, intersection of S. Triviz and Stewart
Las Cruces, NM 88001
Description:
The Fellowship of Las Cruces Rocketry Enthusiasts (FLARE) will present an Apollo 11 Launch Reenactment. FLARE member Dave Kovar brings us a motorized replica of Saturn V Launch Complex 39, and scale model Saturn V Rocket.
The presentation includes pre-ignition motors in the base of the launch pad to simulate the ignition of the Saturn V F-1 engines. There is also tubing in the Control Tower to simulate the venting of the Liquid Hydrogen and Oxygen tanks prior to launch. To enhance this experience, a three-minute countdown audio will be played that begins with the John F. Kennedy “We Choose to Go to the Moon” speech, concluding with the final minute of the Apollo 11 countdown. The rocket will fly about 430 ft. into the air and return to the ground on parachutes.
